This is the first volume of the "Cities at War" series.
Lavishly illustrated, in particular thanks to the photographic collections of CegeSoma, it retraces through text and especially through images the 52 months of occupation of Brussels from May 1940 to early September 1944.
After an overview of the city during the Second World War, the book deals successively with the establishment of the occupation, the occupiers' control, the awakening of patriotism, collaboration, the daily life, persecutions, hidden violence, allied bombings and liberation.
