German soldiers and their units (1940-1945)

1. The main archival fonds kept at CegeSoma and elsewhere :

Information on German soldiers and their units is mainly found through the following two institutions: the Bundesarchiv-Militärarchiv in Freiburg, the Deutsche Dienststelle and the Bundesarchiv in Berlin.

  • In the Bundesarchiv-Militärarchiv you will find the files of the Militärverwaltung (group RW 36), and from the Wehrmacht and Waffen SS units in Belgium. You will also find archives of German military units and information on their organization.
  • At the Bundesarchiv Berlin, you will find the non-military national archives, including for example the SS archives.
