Journaux de Guerre 1939-1945 - Les débuts de la Guerre Froide (France)
(War Press 1939-1945 - The beginning of the Cold War)
After the success of the series about both World Wars and the Interwar period, the series continued with a number of issues about the beginning of the Cold War. Through original newspapers and new historical articles you can rediscover the major events of this period, that witnessed the emergence of two incompatible blocks, dominated by the USSR and the United States.
The series pays attention to among others : the main speeches and doctrines that laid the ideological groundwork for the conflict (such as Churchill's speech in Fulton, the Truman and Jdanov doctrines or the birth of McCarthyism); the major crises (the Prague coup, the Berlin blockade, the nuclear threat) as well as the Indochinese, Greek and Korean wars. An important place is also reserved for the daily life and cultural life of the populations living on both sides of the "Iron Curtain".
Each issue has full facsimiles of the original newspapers. These are complemented by articles written by specialists that put the events into context and help to better understand the legay of that era.
This project is the result of the partnership between London-based Albertas and CegeSoma, who was in charge of the scholarly and editorial coordination.
The various “Journaux de Guerre” (War Press) series tell the story of the two World Wars, the interwar period and the beginning of the Cold War through the press of the era.
