War Mayors During the Second World War

New Publication and an International CongressIn November 2016, the new book of CegeSoma collaborator Nico Wouters Mayoral Collaboration under Nazi Occupatin in Belgium, the Netherlands and France, 1938-46 was published by Palgrave. The English-language book compares the role of the mayors during the occupation of the Second World War in Belgium, the Netherlands and France (Nord and Pas-de-Calais).

The book deepens our knowledge on the so-called accommodation and the politics of collaboration with the German occupier by (local) authorities. The universities of Kent and Ghent will organize a book launch in Canterbury in June 2017, in cooperation with CegeSoma and NIOD. This book launch will take place during an international congress entitled Occupations in the Age of Total War: Micro-Perspectives and Transnational Research. Pieter Lagrou, Sophie De Schaepdrijver and Martin Conway will engage in a debate with the author about his book.
